Spider Vein Removal

Spider Vein Removal

Spider veins are small purple or red blood vessels often visible on the leg, ankle, or foot, and occasionally on the face. They usually increase in number and visibility with age. The cause is unknown, but heredity plays a strong role in the development of this condition. Spider veins should not be confused with varicose veins, which are larger, deeper veins that are usually lumpy and sometimes deep purple in color.  Varicose veins may sometimes cause leg discomfort, but spider veins are usually pain-free.

Good candidates for Spider Vein Removal include adult women who are not currently breast feeding or pregnant, and adult men.  Patients with certain medical conditions, including AIDS, hepatitis, heart conditions, and circulation problems, may not be good candidates for this procedure.

The most common treatment for spider veins on the legs is laser treatment.  More than one treatment is often required, since not all the veins will respond to the first treatment.  Since this is a progressive condition, treatment may be required every few years to treat the new spider veins that occur over time.
